I am curious how much modification would be required to get a locking diff for my Tacoma? Does anyone recommend the one from the TRD over an aftermarket one? My thinking is to get a used rear end and install, but what about the control module to lock it? can I install that on my truck without tearin up the dash?

If I recall correctly, you CAN'T install the TRD locker as it's a different diff case. You'd need a TRD rear axle.

If you find a complete elocker rear axle then you can simply bolt the axle in place provided the gear ratios are the same. Then that just leaves you with controlling the locker. In that case I would suggest just wiring it up direct without the ECU to control it. Pretty simple really.

I just finished up an elocker retrofit, it came out of a FJC and I installed it into a 4th gen 4Runner. However we just did a direct wire so no ECU, just a switch in the dash.
