rpm idle

what should the idle be set at? 02 taco,3.4 is running at .500. seems like it should be higher. looking for some help from the guru's on this?

 

Mine idles around that as well. Hopefully its normal haha

 

Usually around 700-750 is pretty normal.

 

is there a part that has gone bad? or is there an adjustment screw some were that has to be made? i'm old school, back in the day were we had 4bl holley carbs were on a z28! this fuel injection is new for me.

 

There is an adjustment screw/nut setup in front of the throttle body close to the end of the cable. On my 97, you tighten it, it eats more cable, and the idle rises. From what I have read, between 650-750rpm is normal. I would tend to think it's just an adjustment rather than a bad part since it's just low, rather than sputtering.

On the other hand you might need a tune-up. Depending on what you've done lately, could try a Seafoam treatment, new plugs, TB clean, which should also clean out the IAC valve. Also check the PCV valve and make sure it isn't clogging up.

I think as long as the idle is consistent, and doesn't surge and sputter, you're probably okay.

i'll try doing the tb and iac. i have do everything else you have listed, plus i just did timing belt,water pump,tensonier pulley,other pulley and new thermo. month ago i put in new starter. truck has 275k and still run like a champ.

 

I know its a old question but my 03 taco 2.4 has low idle . seen the adjustment for the cable two nuts over a holding bracket? and a nut and screw adjustment at the end of cable? or they both idle adjustmens? os is one a course and other a fine adjustment? there is a little looseness to the cable it moves before the truck reacts to me manuyally moving the idle cable ...well i am confused but can you make any suggestions

Dont mess with the throttle cable, if you adjust that cable then all your doing is opening the butterfly valve more and in a few months time the computer will re-learn and change the idle to lower again, al you will be doing is dumping more fuel when you really dont need too. if your truck isnt sputtering or idling rough then dont worry about the idle, mine is about 550 and i have had no problems with it.
