Who changed the plugs? It looks like they've been broken.

they didnt have oil on them when i took them out but i looked at the link and it said it could be from a leaking valve cover gasket and oil is leaking onto them and making that burn mark...makes sense. my valve cover is a little leaky.

    Too many to list.

That sounds reasonable to me, that would explain why all 3 on the same side are the same and the other side isn't... I'd highly recommend changing that valve cover gasket!!!

    Hello,

I think I can help you.

That burnt ceramic looks exactly like what I just pulled out of my 3.4 4runner.
I’m certain it’s from a failed plug wire arcing to the plug.

Long story short, I had developed a miss fire on cyl 4 yesterday, a p0304 code.

I was aware that had an ignition coil been bad it would have shown two cylinder missfire. “Waste spark system “
These engines utilize 1 coil for 2 cylinders. Blah blah blah... I wanted to check the functionality of the wire itself and found it to no longer insulated and arcing wildly. It also had a small tear...

I’m aware this thread is old af, but for the sake of having resolution I figured I would chime in.

Looks like typical 3.4 oil burn on the plug to me, the boot comes down to the "burnt" part keeping that area clean. What your seeing is what happens when your spark plug tube seals begin leaking and the oil mist hits the hot ceramic plug body and carbonizes or "burns" onto the plug. Have a look at your boots and see if they have any brown or black semi crispy residue on them, the wide top of the boot just below the 90° bend where the wire come into it seals against the valve cover, but the tube seals leak into that chamber created between the boot seal and the spark plug itself, the bit that isn't covered and ia hottest causes the oil mist to condence and give you what you see there.

The plugs themselves should still be good.

OP also check your PCV valve, or replace it for cheap insurance. You may also try the oil cap blowby check to get an idea of ring condition and PCV flow.

I noted in my OP that I was aware of the thread’s age homie, read with more care as I did not “fall for it”

However, consider the fact this thread was found from a google search on the first page... so more people than just you or I are actually viewing it.

The value of forums in my opinion comes from the bank of stored resolutions.
It’s a huge drag when nobody takes the time to finish the thread.

    Peace ✌️

Please don't use logic and being a contributor to the knowledge base that is TacomaWorld as a means to kill my attempt to find humorous memes and inject them into a legitimate conversation.

Seriously though man, adding valid info to a thread that comes up on a Google search - especially as your first post - is awesome. Hope you keep contributing!
