front differential drop

i have a 2 1/2 inch lift on my tacoma and i was wondering does anyone have or installed a differential drop to reduce the stress on the cv axles?

 

I'm going to be putting mine on tomorrow.

 

i put one on my 2nd gen. easy to install and should help save some CV boots and joints.

 

How long that take you? Mine should arrive today.

 

I got a Diff drop on my 01 tacoma, its good to have

 

yeah it looks easy and cheap. cause i already have had to put a set of cv boots on. but does the drop to the diff interfere with the skid plates?

 

On the the 1rst gen it does, i had to modify my stock skid to make it fit

 

with a floor jack, and the necessary tools probably 30 minutes. you have to remove the front skid, place the jack under the diff to support it, then loosen the 2 diff bolts, lower the diff with the jack enough to fit the spacer in, re torque the diff down with the longer bolts, reinstall skid. i think thats all

 

yeap what he said i done it today takes about 30 min its easier with a little help. i just drilled the hole out bigger so i could line up where the screws when no big deal

 

good to hear. im gonna order a diff drop for mine since i installed an all new suspension....wanna keep the diffs good as long as they possibly can.

where did you get your diff drop from??

 

Tacomaman, Toytec has it for the 1st gen too!

 

I installed one when I did my lift. Got it from ToyTec - $30. Really easy to install!

I had to kinda manhandle the skid plate to make it fit, but not much.

they look pretty simple. as i havent installed a diff drop before....what exactly does it drop..........and i realize obviously, the diff, but how exactly??

 

the spacers go between the arms, that go toward the rear, and the frame to bolt the diff to the frame to drop it 1"

You should definitely put one in. It does reduce the stress on the CV's, so therefore it is a good thing. And it is pretty darn easy to do.

I have a Toytec lift and got my drop through them.

I installed the 3" ToyTec lift on my '01 and it came w/ the diff drop kit. It's very easy to install, and it will significantly reduce the wear on your CV boots (b/c they're closer to the factory angle). The only problem I had was that the skid plate would not fit back on the truck w/o the skid plate spacers and new bolts. I contacted the company and they're sending me the spacers and bolts for free b/c I ordered my lift before they included those. A set of lock out hubs would also help, but they're pretty expensive.
