Frame- Dealer Spray Coating - OK to disassemble & reassemble entire truck??

So they're finally doing the Corrosion Spray coating at Toyota Dealers in NY, and I'm going in for my assessment appointment next week. I know that my frame is going to pass, because it was inspected less than a year ago and looked fine, so I guess I'm going to get it sprayed, rather than replaced.

My question is- is it bad for the vehicle to be dissassembled and reassembled...? They said that even for the spraying, they lift the body and drivetrain completely off, spray, then reassemble everything.

Would I be better off just ignoring this spray offer if my frame really is in good shape.....? I doubt that this is the best solution though....

 

X2 on that. Get the spray. Even if your frame seems to be ok still get the spray. It wont hurt it at all and is better and doing pre mateinince on the truck.

 

haha OK. So I'll get the spray. But just out of curiosity, could the dissassebly/reassembly ever cause issues in the future?

 

I heard that the spray coating is really sticky/tacky like tar, and it stays soft like that forever?? Is that annoying? does it get dirty easily???

 

My coating is solid, but some people said theirs is still like wet tar...??

 

Why would they lift the body off to treat the frame, business's that specialize in rust prevention don't. Looks to me its just a reason for the dealer to say something out of there control broke taking the body loose and you pay for it. There's an old saying Don't kick a sleeping dog!

 

Im like 99% sure they didnt take my body off when spraying the frame. It was done in the dealers collision garage and they never had it inside long enough to take it all apart.

They cant force you to pay for something they broke. If they broke it they pay for it, if its something in bad shape they can only suggest you replace it. Its only bolts to remove the body from frame, if they break a bolt off its their fault. I know this because when I broke bolts off at Toyota, it was my time to extract it not the customers.

 

I got the spray in December though my frame was lookin great. I don't think they removed the body from the frame, but they did keep it over night. It's pretty thick and was quite tacky at first. Now it has hardened considerably, dry to a touch, but still kinda soft; it rubs off a lil on knuckles and tools when they graze it though

 

Does anyone know if my 97 with a good frame qualifies for this coating?

 

they don't remove anything but your spare tire when they spray, and yes, it can stay tacky for a long time. I'm sure environment has a part in it so a definite time frame couldn't be figured out.
