Broken Motor mount or Blown Engine?? or other?

Did i just break a motor mount.???

I have a 2001 tacoma and i was doing a doughnut and having some fun. On my last doughnut I got her revved up pretty high. Loud noise occured. Sounded like someone shot a gun. When I stopped there was fluid spilling like crazy. I figured not getting enough air because similar happened to my on my dirtbike. I continued to drive because i wanted to get some air to the engine and it was completly dark. I drove approx 5 miles to the nearest gas station. On the way i noticed there was a large dent in the hood. I figured at this point for sure the motor was shot. When i got to the gas station and parked under a light. I popped the hood. The entire fan was GONE!!! Absoutly nothing left. The radatior hose was unhooked. Probably from the fan hitting it. So my question is what happend. Did i break a motor mount causing the fan to be shreded. Or did i totally destroy my engine? During the 5 mile trip the Check engine light came on and the temp gauge was about average.( I think). But Please help. Every thing is appreciated.

Its dark out. No pics yet. But i can show you the before picture. The entire whitish color plastic is gone. Absolutely GONE. I am freaking out

 

Better to replace a fan than an engine block. Nothing you can do till morning though. But yeah, if you were doing donuts, and the engine shifted, that would push the fan into the fan shroud or radiator and blow it apart. Engine mounts can be rebuilt though.

 

I am no genius but a plastic fan putting a large dent in the hood?

I would take some pics and post up, but AT LEAST fix the hose and add some coolant to the proper level. (and check ALL fluids for cross contamination) until you can get a new fan.

yea, if the fan came off, it could make out dents on the hood. Take a current picture of the engine bay

 

So did you refill it with coolant? It's probably not much to worry about. The fan was probably loose to begin with and had ended up tearing off. The fan can easily dent the hood. Start it up when fluids are good and see how it runs.

 

Okay. Well i was out of town but when it was light out and i could actually see, i did an assesment of the damage. The radatior has some damage. Hood was in perfect condition. And now it has quite a few dents and paint missing on those dents . I did snap a few pics though.

I will be getting a new fan in the next few days. I will mount it and see if it hits anything. Then fill her up with fluids and give her a test drive. Hopefully thats all that needs fixing mechanically.

Yes, a fan could cause a dent in a hood.

Maybe it's because of the pic quality, but I can't see horrific damage to the radiator. Me thinks your fan delaminated from the fan hub. If the fan had hit the radiator, I think you would have seen a ton of radiator damage and probably would have seen a temperature spike (maybe, maybe not).

It seems you are doing the right thing (new fan, top of fluids and give her a whirl).

I thought the shit was supposed to hit the fan, not the fan hitting the hood.

 

Yeah well its too late. The dents are done and the fan is demolished. Hopefully a new one will and some fluids are all that are needed to fix it. While driving after the fan blew apart i did not notice the temperature gauge running hotter but im not 100% sure about that.

Got some stuff at NAPA today.



I installed the fan and refilled the coolant. Started it up and she was running. There was no major damage. Took it for a testdrive and everything was still working. Now it just needs a new radiator shroud. Im just glad it wasnt anything super expensive.

 

It may still be cold in your area now, but don't delay the shroud for very long. I've seen some cars absolutely overheat without the shroud.

As cheesy and ineffective as that thing looks, there's a reason they put them on there. Without them, you won't pull or direct the air in nearly as efficient manner and it most likely would overheat.

Glad to hear it all seems to be doing alright.

 

Already ordered one online. It will be here in the next week. It looks just absolutely pointless but i do realize the importance of them. Hence I will not be driving the truck until I get the new shroud on.
