I am hearing a whirling noise when I turn my dash fan on anything above 2. In my past whenever this has happened it was just time to replace it. I have tried cleaning, oiling you name it on my other cars and the noise just starts right back up.
Is the fan hard to get to in the Tacoma's? Super easy on the Civic and Integras I had years ago.

I cleaned mine on my 04 and it is a breeze to get out. Look under the dash on the passenger side. Look to the right and the fan mounts from the bottom. Three screws, if I remember correctly and the wire connection. You can take the glove box off to see better if you want to. Remove the two screws at the bottom of the glove box and there ya go.

Here is a diagram from the FSM to give you a better idea. Scroll down a little.
