Maybe true, but I park in a small two car garage and my wife parks next to my truck, so they serve as door ding protectors. They're great for when I wash the truck since I can get to the entire top of the roof without opening the doors and also are nice for when I have my Yakima rack or box on top. I don't rock crawl so the tubes serve me well.
Oh, and most importantly, my wife likes the steps so she can get in easier, especially now that the stance is taller.

Mine has BFG MT 265/75/16 and the lift is just under 3". It came as it sits when I got it and I have to checkout the brand of the lift.... it is a adjustable coil over with silver shocks, can't make out any brand tags on them. Maybe I'll snap a pic and let all the experts on here tell me?:) It also has air bags on the rear which will come in handy for the big loads, like a import camper which I might look into down the road.

    Cheers
