D-rings (shackles) - what kind

Looking to get some D-rings (shackles) for front and rear bumpers. What brand and size do you guys use?

 

I have always used 3/4" shackles. I had a set of them on my old Jeep that I got from Trail Gear with my bumpers.

 

I carry 3/4", 1" and 1/2".

I always try to use 1", but that's not always possible.

My Relentless front can't use 1" so it gets 3/4". My rear bumper can so I use 1" there.

I have found on more then one occasion someone's bumper or tow hook can't fit 1" or 3/4" so I use 1/2". I had to yank a chick that spun offroad in her car this winter and luckily I had the 1/2" with me or I would of left her

 

Brands and where did you buy from? I'm too Leary of cheap Chinese shit to get them from just anywhere.

 

Size doesnt matter so much, its strength. I have some 3/4" ARB shackles that are rated for 10400lbs. The 1" shackles they sell at my local surplus store are only 9000lbs.
Just make sure you check out the weight ratings.

 

If your town has a wire rope speciality store (for crane rigging) get some Crosby shackles. They have a 5 to 1 safety factor (for over head rigging). American made and they will last you a lifetime.

 

We only use Crosby for rigging at work. That's a pretty strong endorsement considering my line of work.

 

Any other stores carry d rings? Interested in picking up a set soon.

 

Brands don't matter, just make sure they have a (WLL) working load limit written on them. If they don't, then don't buy them. A couple good online places to buy them are: Sierra Expeditions
