how do i get more power out of my tacoma?

i kno this is a stretch but i need to get more power out of my v6 tacoma. i love my truck and i want to keep it but i do alot of towing and hauling, i really dont want to spend $3,000 on a supercharger....does anybody got any suggestions?

 

I recently installed a TRD cold air intake on my 4.0L v6. I was skeptical about the whole thing, but good grief! Seems to have made a lot of difference power wise. With normal driving, it seems to have not impacted my mileage at all. However, when I put my foot in it, it made a lot of difference. I am sure that aftermarket CAI systems offer similar results.

 

for the 3.4v6...........you can do the deck plate mod......headers and a beter flowing muffler, such as the dynomax super turbo. with the deckplate mod....its dyno proven consistent 5 hp gains to the rear wheels...same with the dynomax. the headers will add a little more to that. you will tell a difference. these are about the best things you can do without going the s/c route. also, with the deckplate....get a good high flow muffler, like the afe pro dry s.

edit.......i said "get a good high flow muffler, like the afe pro dry s."....when what i meant to say was get a good high flow air filter.

 

Ive already done the dec mod and it did do alot....i was wondering if the headers would do anything?

 

with a set of trd or dt headers...you should see a reasonable gain in hp and also more torque. headers would be the next thing i'd look into.

 

okay would that do anything for my top end? because my truck turns 3500 at 70 mph

 

Headers normally do more for the top end than the bottom end. Top end power is easy to come by. Bottom end is tough; bigger displacement and forced induction are really the only way to go.

i would do the map ecu but im not sure if its capable on ur engine

 

what kind of place would do that? and how much would it cost?

 

if you know how to solder then u can do it easily... also if you dont have an aftermarket intake the stock map will give u 15hp to the wheels

 

I've asked around and looked around and can't find anyone or anything to map the 3.4's. Do you know of any?

 

yeah if i was u i would do the headers and exhaust/ muffler mod. it will be the cheapier soloution and it yields reasonable gains as well.

 

i think itll be around the same. they also got the same gain on a camry

EDIT- gains will be around 8-15hp
