    Greetings,

I have a 2004 Tacoma base 2WD Regular Cab. The the AC button on the Control Head stayed illuminated at all times and the Compressor would not shut off. The wiring diagram in All Data showed it being commanded on by what Toyota calls an Amplifier which is attached to the back of the COntrol Head / switch panel . I replaced the Amplifier and the problem has changed.

With the new Amplifier the AC button shows to turn off (light goes out when depressed) which it did not do before - however - the compressor still runs continous regardless of settings on the COntrol Head. Now im double confused. I also do not have access to a scan tool that will show live data - ie: to see of AC is being commanded on by the ECM.
Has anyone seen this before -----or any ideas......???? Thanks

You mean the magnetic clutch is still engaged?

That is correct - the magnetic clutch stays engaged anytime the fan is turned on regardless of button on/off setting and temp setting

It also does not cycle - it runs continuous anytime the fan / blower is on

Have you tried unplugging the clutch or testing the voltage at the plug?

I did not unplug the compressor however the compressor does shut off when turning the fan to the "off" postion and back on when the fan/blower is turned on. This shows that it does turn off as it should when the trigger is removed.

Try turning the AC off and the defroster off.

Yeah copy that. AC compressor turns on when it’s set to defrost.

Your AC control relay may be sticking. Place your hand over the relay while someone else actuates and de actuates the AC clutch. You should feel it click on and click off. Your relay should not be latching.

    That’s a lot of negativity.

Rumor has it, the issue still persists.

I doubt the OP will answer the question posed by @Joselara1997...his only 3 posts were on this thread 10 years ago.
