    Hi Gents,

I'm collecting parts and information for my Prerunner 4WD conversion.
i have a 01 Prerunner xtracab V6 AT with diff lock.

    parts list:

    from donor 98 4x4 Prerunner.
    - front diff
    - front spindles with drive axles
    - AT shifter base - the one that everyone cuts open.
    - shifter boots

    from 96 4runner 4x4
    - AT transmission with adapter.

    Still looking for:
    - Transfer case ADD or Jshift
    - front drive shaft
    - rear drive shaft

I'm handy with basic electronics and wiring so i am wanting to make it as stock as possible using a 4WD computer as much as i can and am researching this. i have searched High an Low but i cant find and verify the part number for the 4WD computer. the one that sits behind the 2 cigg adapters behind the shifter.

If anyone with a 96 to 2004 4x4 tacoma can kindly look for me please?
doesnt matter what year as long as i get a part number. they are mostly the same anyway i think.

i do have the FSMs but they only give you connector part numbers. I;ve seen sequoias, FJs, and 4runner part numbers but for some reason, Tacomas are hard to find.

TOYDIY lists the parts for me as 89533-35130 which is what i have for the rear diff locker.

it also lists 89533-35060 and 89533-35110. am wondering what these are for? the first one seems to be an alternate diff lock computer.

i know this is harder to do but i want to give it a shot. worse case scenario is to use manual switches to control the ADD motors. am taking this slow anyway so i have time to do the research.

hopefully i get enough info that someone else with the same line of thinking can use here.

    Thank You in advance!

    CK

After studying the electrical FSM for a few days. i decided to check and see if i have any of the wiring with my Taco and so far, i found that.

    - i cant find the connector for a 4WD computer (located above the SRS computer)
because of this. plus the fact that no one seems to know or have the P/N for this. i am thinking i might have to give up the idea of wiring it.

    - i do have a Rear Locker Computer P/N 89533-35130
    - i have the connector for the Transfer Case Relay!!! (labeled Transmissions Relay) P/N 89531-35020
This is my fallback, This one i can do!

    - still tracking down if i have the S11 short connector for ADD option
    - still tracking down if i have the harness for the relay to ADD motor.

    - i got the electric ADD actuator from a guy on *bay

    I also took some pics...

pics of driver side kick panel with locker Computer
pics of passenger side kick panel with the cruise control and the transfer case relay connector and the 2RZ connector for O/D.
wonder why the prerunner has it...

will wait till weekend. maybe everyones too busy...

I just stumbled onto what i was looking for.

    Apparently. for:

1997.06-2000.09 the computer part number is 89533-35110 /
2000.09- the computer part number is 89533-35160 / 363811-10360 AISIN

I have been checking the wiring and what i found so far is it, i checked my truck but no additional wiring for ADD or TCase shift motor is apparent. For simplicity, I'll just re use whats mostly there which is to use the Transmissions (Tcase) Relay to shift the ADD and add wiring.

Thanks to Gscott04 and SargeSlapnuts for their help!

I know this, why would I ask "any updates?" On a 4wd conversion post a day later?

You don't need a 4wd computer for the conversion... It just monitors your speed so you can't shift into 4wd at X speed or what ever.

    Hey Folks,
Wow. has it been 2yrs already?!
Unfortunately, time and funding are pretty scarce at the moment
so i havent gotten around to this ...
hopefully before the year ends. coz i have to do both timing belt and head tuning too.
altho as much as i'd like to do this like factory...
it looks like that i will have to it with no computer and all manual due to above constraints.
Good luck to you guys out there doing this too!

@SafetyDang would you know if the speed input signal for the various 4WD ECU is the same for year 1998-2001 tacomas / 4runners?
    Thanks!

If you are only doing a 4wd swap you don't need to change any computer component in your Truck. Are you just simply trying to wire the ADD? The ADD motor can be wired to an 3 pull switch with the ADD relay. Is there any particular reason why you want the 4WD control computer?

Thanks for responding! i opted to wire in the ECU just in case someone else drove the truck and pushed a button they shouldnt. (e.g. kids/babies).
also for safety, i wanted to wire in the speed sensor and am wondering if the signal is the same across toyotas as i'm using a VF3AM transfer case.
i'm using the 01 4runner 89533-35170 ECU in conjunction with that transfer case.
I'm assuming it should ? hoping you can confirm?
in any case, i will find out this weekend when i complete it and do a test/dry run... hoping it works :D

If you are talking about the VSS (Vehicle speed sensor). The changes in signal is base off gearing. You can buy different gears to adjust your speedo. 2wd

Here is so more info on the subject: Also, what is your VSS from? I ask because.... If its from the 2wd truck then the VSS will not work in the T-case. You must have a 4wd VSS.

I see. The way I think of it my truck is like a 86 Toyota Pick up. No clutch safety switch, no ADD, or etc. Simple. Anyone else that drives my truck is told this and they usually understand. Take it out of gear before starting is the minimum I say to them. Not many others drive my truck in 4wd and if they do they usually understand to stop before entering 4wd. On top of that they have to get out and lock the hubs anyway.
