I spoke with a rep from Wellman Products yesterday concerning the grinding/rubbing noise I've been experiencing since replacing my pads last week. After questioning my brake-in procedure, he advised me to try sanding the rotors and pads with 120 grit sandpaper. After doing further research on the Hawks pads, I decided to go with some pads from Oreillys. While changing the pads, I noticed one of the outer pads was stuck to the dust boots. I had to use a knife to separate the pad from the boot, and noticed the dust boot is now compromised. The compound that came with the pads for friction control had gotten so hot it turned to rubber, and I had a very hard time scraping it from the back of the pads. Hopefully I can get autoanything, where I purchased the pads, or Wellman Products to give me a full refund. Less than a 100 miles were placed on these pads and I'm not happy at all with their performance.

Auto Anything is going to allow me to return the pads AT MY COST, and subject to a 15% restocking fee. What? The cs guy said he wasn't sure if they're defective, that it could have been my rotors causing the problems. NEVER again will I buy anything from this company.

FYI, Autozone has brake pads with a lifetime warranty. I'll be installing 2 sets this weekend, one on another member's Tacoma and one on my fiance's car. I asked a ton of questions about the warranty, there's no mileage restriction, if the pads fail or wear out, bring them back and they give you a new set.

I love autozone. Their return/warranty policy is hard to beat.

OP, I always try to steer clear of places that charges ridiculous restocking fees which is one of the main reason I never order anything from autoanything. Next time try rockauto, summit racing, jegs, or one of TW vendors.

Pads for my fiance's car were $28/set for semi-metallic, $40/set something for ceramic (by set I mean 4 pads). Both have the same warranty. I even asked him, so if I ride the shit out of my brakes and come back with them worn down to the nub, I get a new set and 'yup'. Eaglednasty is the member who originally told me about them. I'm helping him put a set on his truck this weekend. Even if they wear down in 20k miles, just throw on another pair. As long as the stopping power is comparable, I don't see a down side

Lesson learned. I purchased a set of Brake Best Select from Oreilly's for $24.99+tax, and these has the lifetime warranty.

Did you put new pads on an old, unturned rotor?
