Supercharger or v-8?

What would you consider a better upgrade 300hp 5.3 v8 with trans and case or forced induction for the 3.4? Assuming that the cost was the same.

Cost wouldn't be the same. You're comparing apples to oranges. You go putting a V8 in that chassis then you'll be upgrading suspension, prob the frame, and who else knows what. Are you considering this for a project? Would be cool to see a V8 Taco.

Ive got a 2nd gen s/c'd V6, not sure what I can help with opinion wise. I have nothing to compare it too being as I havent touched 1st gens, i did however own an LT1 v8 and my current 1GR-FE supercharged. I could tell you what Ive learned of each

I think a V8 option would be sweet on a tacoma if they may the frame and all able to handle it. When they bring the S/C for the 12' out ima grab one up.

If money is not an option sure go for it. It would be different. Otherwise go with the proven reliable option. The V8 will cost substantially more and create all the issues of getting everything to work together and all the custom work that will need to be done. Youd probably end up spending more than the truck is worth unless youre doing the work yourself.

It really isn't a can of worms

There is no issue with the frame. You would need a suspension lift however for that added weight.

There are plenty of after market kits out there for conversions. Fitment is not an issue.

The other thing to take into consideration is that the SC for the first gen is less than impressive... if you want noticeable power and have dispensable income to cover the shit that goes into dropping a v8, go that route

I choose option C. Leave the truck as is and get a fast car on the side. Of course this only works if you are going for speed.

I voted V8 because its different and would yield better results than supercharging it. You'd probably get better gas mileage too.
I was in the same boat with my Wrangler. I ended up going with a v8 swap and I'm glad I did.

Here's a guy who did a Sequoia V8 into a 3rd Gen 4runner. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-ge...onversion.html Obviously some modifications were needed, but nothing too extreme. If I knew how to do this I would over a s/c because I could s/c the V8!

If it were me, I'd do the SB 305. There are tons of aftermarket products that are relatively cheap. You can take a stock one (roughly +220HP) up to over +375HP.

I chose v8 over SC kit with 300hp.

If I could put any motor in my truck it would either be an LS1 or the LS9.
