Manual locking hubs not working properly.

My locking hubs are working properly? This winter I was using the 4wd and did not realize I had the hubs in free position. Got thru the snow no problem. I tried them in lock and noticed no difference. Gun it in snow, front wheels would spin in either free or lock position. I thought that if you had the transfer case in 4wd and the hubs in free position the front wheels would not spin. What would cause this?

 

Is your 4x4 dash light on/check the 4wd shift knob if you have one.

 

Sounds like your hubs are NOT free wheeling, so maybe they need to be re-built?

 

Would being dirty or improperly assembled cause them not to free wheel?

Thanks Tacomaboss they were improperly assembled. The spring was not even attaching the pawl to the gear. Put together properly and they lock and unlock properly.
