Like the title says, I Herculined my rocker panels and Bushwacker Cut-Out fender flares in preparation for the rock sliders that I'll be getting soon. I've been wanting to do this for awhile seeing that the majority of scratches and nicks were all along these areas. Plus, the route I take to and from work has a good stretch on an unimproved firebreak and every "clunk" I hear makes me wince.

There's more to the story because, as we all know, it's never as easy as you think it's going to be. This is the first coat. As you can see, the coverage was completely over-the-top for Herculiner. That's because this was supposed to be Raptor-lined.

    IMG_1556_722cebe5c51356950be573c6829be9de00ae689c.jpg

Long story short, the bottle that you screw into the spray gun was stuck and I couldn't unscrew it. Add the fact that the plastic of the bottle is thin and bendable and that there's a hole at the top of the screw-in base, it shot out like a geyser when I tried to muscle it out (this is a great quote, btw). I knew it was going to happen but I gave it a try anyway. So, I admitted defeat and got out the can of Herculiner I've had sitting around for about three years.

    IMG_1558_e5c86e45e97c0a357e944281eccc489a1d1f8d1c.jpg

Overall, I'm really happy with the results and, honestly, I like the texture better. It matches my bed and tool box. I'm saving the Raptor Liner for the undercarriage once I order a new spray gun.

The Herculiner was super easy to apply, although messy. Here are a couple of lessons that I learned while doing this:

    1. The roller sprays that shit everywhere so put a drop-cloth over your tires as a precaution.

    2. Wear old clothes (see Rule #1).

    3. Tape the inside edges of your doors.

    4. Pull tape off while second coat is still wet for a razor edge.

    5. Mineral Spirits works just as well as the suggested Xylene.

    6. Once tacky, use your fingers to "roll" the drips back on the doors and edges of the body. Makes it look a lot cleaner.

    7. Bugs land in that shit and you have to pick 'em out.

    IMG_1559_9227b5d7fe6fcdf164af030af397175b0c1988af.jpg

This is the second coat without my rear bumper put back on.

Looks good, next time stay away from Raptor liner and use the liner exxtreme, shit is so easy to do and you wont have no issues since the give you a metal spray can and a good quality gun.

I did this about 4 years ago..... I prepped the body with a wire brush on a drill and scratched it up pretty good. I didnt prep my fender flares as good. I did about 4 to 5 coats on everything. Rockers still look perfect and only a few spots of peeling on the flares but thats my fault. I want to redo the flares and add more coats to everything but i want to get bushwackers so i might as well wait till then.

Looks real good dude and it will be a lot duller of a finish in a few months (what i was hoping for with mine)

I think the contrast would look good. Maybe get rid of the chrome, though.
