Cv axle seal replacement

Hey guys I had a leak from my front diff on my 02 v6 4x4. I was told that it was my axle seal on the driver side. So I got a replacement seal and started the project when I got my cv axle out of the front diff I found the seal. When I went to take it off it was ripping so I cut it out. Now the seal I have to put back in is not going to fit its to big I'm wondering if anyone has fixed this before and has any experience that might help me out

Here's a pic of what I have right now

I'm doing mine today. When I ordered my seal this week they said they were two different seals. Mine is a type A(I hope) there is a tab where the diff is put together. Depending where that tap is, which seal you need. My tab is at bottom, the other will be at top.

Push it in by hand as far as you can then use rubber mallet would be your best bet

I'm looking at the photo posted and to ME it looks like the metal part of the original seal is still in the housing. I can't say 100% for sure obviously, but I am just going by the photo. Something just doesn't look right in the picture.

If not, and the seal is too big, then the question is, how much too big? As mentioned these seals need to be carefully driven in. They won't just slip into place.
