OME 880s with plate bumper, winch?

I have OMe 880 coils and Nitrocharger shocks and Dakars in back. I am about to install a plate front bumper and possibly a winch. Im guessing this will really weight down the 880s. I'm debating the 881s or 883s. I don't mind a bit of a firm ride but I don't want it to be uncomfortable.

Will my 880s really suck with 150-200 more lb?

If so, 881 or 883?

I am going to assume (i know) that you have a 1st gen. I am running the 882s with my badland bumper and winch. Bumpers shipping weight was 108#s and the winch is right around 80#s. The ride isn't any stiffer than it was stock.

I am running an ARB with a winch and am in the process of replacing my 600# Eibachs (14") with some 700# Kings (14"). The Eibachs just didn't cut it. The OMEs are longer however.
For reference on the OMEs
880 - 500lb @ 14 3/8"
881 - 500lb @ 14 3/4"
882 - 500lb @ 15.5"
883 - 590lb @ 14 3/4"

Great info thank you. I have an Elite bumper I am putting on this week and am debating pulling the trigger on a winch. Looks like I should step up to 883s if I am going to bother.

Good call on the 882s. I am running them with the nitrochargers. You won't be sorry you did.

Ugh now I am torn. I put an order in for 882s and cancelled it thinking maybe I should go with 883s or Eibach 620lb. I can't make up my mind.

I promise you, I have almost an extra 200 pounds up front. The 882s will be perfect. From toytec: http://www.toyteclifts.com/index.php...mart&Itemid=72.

Also, from wheelersoffroad: *PLEASE NOTE THE 882 COIL SET IS ONLY RECOMMENDED FOR DOUBLE CAB TACOMA'S OR V6 EXTRA CABS RUNNING A WINCH AND BULLBAR. WE PREFER TO RUN THESE ONLY ON OME STRUTS. These are made from 16.5mm wire, have a free height of 395mm, and have a 500# rate.

Trust me man, I have been running this setup for the better part of 3 years. I wheel it hard when I do and have had 0 issues.

really depends on how much lift you want as well. The 882s wont lift the truck as high. My Eibachs still kept the truck at a 3'' lift with the plate bumper tho.

when i get coil overs tho im getting 700lb coils too.

but 882s will still do the trick. but you'll only have about 2.5'' of lift. Not a bad thing granted. You CVs will be happier and you won't have to lift the rear as much.

Thanks for the great replies. Out of the OME coils I'm leaning toward the 882. I know the 882 are recommended for more weight than the 880s and are suitable for the OME shocks. As far as I know the 882 are the same rate as the 880s abut are longer. I am not an engineer by any means, but my limited suspension knowledge makes me think increasing the spring rate for the add'l weight would be logical, as a longer spring of the same rate with more weight will just result in more preload, correct? This would steer me toward the Eibach coils but I'm wondering if the OME shocks will perform well with the Eibachs?

The 882's also have a thicker coil iirc. And if you wanted more lift you can add a small top plate spacer to that for another 1/2" or so...or a trim packer like boxrocket. I know people run 883's on first gens but that's not what they were developed for. I'd go with 882's man. They were designed for that weight, I'd trust the people in ARB's camp.

Good points. Haven't found any info on the Eibach/OME shock issue. I should probably just re-order the 882s. Just need to decide if I want to add a spacer. Major drawbacks? Don't they preload the spring too? That much lift is harder on the CVs yeah?
