left front end clunking sound. what could it be??

    Will do. Do u have any idea why the noise would stop when i brake?

    That could be anything just try the to shake the tires around and locate the noise. I'd start drivers side first just get in there and move things around if there is any excessive play tighten down the bolts if they're loose. Again check for grease and stuff strewn about around the boots/halfshafts. Grease up the zerk fittings and see if that will eliminate it.

    i bet your bearings are going out..I had the same problem on my 00 4runner.

    Sway bar links? Mine are clunking on the left side, started out only when I turned..now it clunks anytime I hit a bump.

    Those wouldn't really click with an increase and decrease in speed like a CV bearing

    I have another question... if the cv bearings were what is causing the clunking can you replace only that bearing or would you have to replace the whole half shaft? Sorry for all the questions haha

    The balls could be replaced solely but as long as there isn't any damage to the ball, pitting, scratching, showing excessive wear of them or the housing then you just do a quick re-grease and put it all together with a new boot and re-install.

    Checked the cv boots when i got to my truck and there is no grease on either boot. They both are free of rips amd tears as well. Will be checking ball joints and thei cv joints themself when when i get back home.

    Well the problem is solved. Turns out three of my lugs nuts were loose and one had completely rotated off. I have a broken wheel stud in that wheel already so my wheel was basically held on by one lug! I re-torqued them back to specs and the clunk went away. Also checked the ball joints and there was very little play. Thanks again to all who gave advise and or helped try to solve my dilema

    Yikes. It isn't hard to miss something like that though you think it may be so simple that it can't be the problem even I did it today. Glad you got it though. If you haven't I'd go ahead and put a wrench to all the lug nuts.
