4 wheel drive won't engage

1997 Taco 4 wheel drive won't engage. The drive shaft turns when in H4 and L4 but there in no power getting to the front wheels. It has a vaccume accuator with two short pieces of rubber hose that "seemed" fine. I couldn't really tell because of all the grease and loom. Any ideas? If it is the accuator where can I get a new one? The local auto parts store was a no go. Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same problem.

Trying to find a "how to guide" on how to track down the problem.
Vacuum leak or ADD or ?

On my 89 toyota pickup I had the same issue. There was a small vacuum solenoid on the passenger side fender that could be bypassed. I did that for a while to get 4wd, then replaced it. I'm not sure being the year difference if they're the same or even remotely close, but worth a look. I dont understand why if you have a transfer case, and manual locking hubs, you need a vacuum actuated differential. Stupid.

Same thing happened to my '97 before I bought it, we just bypassed the solenoid and it works great now.
