Need more power 2002 Tacoma 4x4

I am new to the Tacoma world, Just bought a super clean 2002 4x4 and realized while I love everything about it... it doesn't have enough power to get out of its own way!! Im open to ideas... I have done performance chips exhaust and intake with some success on other vehicles just wondering what you think.

supercharger. Chips do nothing and intake/exhaust is minimal gains if any.

BTW its 3.4, not 4.0 as your sig says.

 

make sure its running properly before you go upgrading the 3.4 really isnt that slow

 

I replaced plugs wires etc. Runs smooth just not much power on the highway

 

well I don't know how fast you want to go but i have no trouble getting mine to 90 on the Eisenhower.

 

I can be in 4th gear accelerating up 12,000 passes doing 80 mph.

How much more power do you need? And if you feel that's lacking, then you should have bought something with a V8 or turbo-diesel in it.

 

I plan to let my employees use the truck so I don't want to take away from the reliability... small upgrades are more feasible.

 

If there's nothing out there its ok.. I just wanted to check with you before i waisted money on eBay parts

supercharger and some injectors is the only reasonable option in your situation

 

Tell us more about your truck. Engine size, tire size, diff. ratios. Automatic or stick. There are things you can do but they will cost money.

 

3.4 4 door auto

 

We put the largest tires with out lift... Ill have to grab the size when I get home

 

The 3.4, even stock has a fair hp:weight ratio but by no means is it going to be sports car fast. I have the supercharger and it pulls hard in low gears and has no problem hitting 100. Could go faster, but why would I need to? I need to get the URD 7th investor kit to get the most out of it though. There are a couple superchargers for sale in the 1st generation marketplace, 2k and 1.5k iirc, not cheap, but worth it and performance always comes with a price. You really have to ask yourself what it is the truck will be used for and do you really need the extra power. Good luck man. Btw, the charger requires you run 91 octane...more money right there.

If you want the max power go with the super charger or a turbo. For cheap mods go with the deck plate mod or a variation of it, a straight through muffler and a tune up with everything lubed. I have heard people claim success with long tube headers also. If you can reduce weight that may help also.
