Want some opinions, and Thoughts. 2000 tacoma

Got a buddy that is interested in this truck.

2000 prerunner Ext. Cab, SR5, auto
186,000 miles.

Interior is used
Exterior has its wear and tear.

Asking price is $6500

It runs good, I drove it.


I told him to show up with 5200.

Is there anything he should watch for on this model truck? I owned an 02 and loved it.

 

is the 2000 available for frame rust buy back? I would check that for sure.

 

To my knowledge thats isn't in affect here. This frame looks to be very good. I was looking for signs of abuse.

 

Don't go by LOOKS alone. The frame rust issue is from the INSIDE out.

Not trying to scare ya (or him), but the only way to know for sure is to take something metal (light hammer?) and bang along the frame to discover any weak spots in the frame. Better safe than sorry.....

Any maintenance records?
Check fluids - what's everything look like? Radiator fluid still look clear? How about steering fluid - smell burnt?

Did you drive it in 4WD (4hi AND 4lo)??

186,000 isn't a lot for a toyota, but it's A LOT when you're buying one used.

What's the going rate on KBB?

 

The fluids all looked new, most likely freshly changed. It is a prerunner so no 4x4. KBB says 8300 in good condition. It is fair and the mileage is high I did not account for that with the above KBB price. I was kinda leary due to all the fluids looking so good, either when It arrived on the lot the dealer changed the fluids or the previous owner did. It is on a used car lot.

 

i got my 02 at that mileage but id get a carfax report just incase, i wish i did just to see whats already been replaced on it. youre either payin for the truck, or payin to fix it

 

I think $5200 is a pretty low offer. I sold my '99 for $6200. KBB at the time was $6700 and I had about 139K miles on her.

 

Yeah but the interior was all burned up. Cigarette burns on every seat and all on the roof. Large dent in the tailgate, rear bumper pushed in slightly. Front drivers door has a large dent (like someone leaned on it, easy to pull) and 3 smaller ones. Scratched down the passenger side, looks like a bicycle. Thats where the low price comes from.
I sold my 02 tacoma for 12.5K
