So yeah I have questions (of course):

Why didn't you run the dynamat as far up the firewall as possible?

You say it cuts down on road/wind noise... is the wind noise from the windows/glass now amplified because the rest of your truck is so much quieter?

Do you have dynamat in your door panels, "walls" of your cab or under the headliner?

Overall, how tight is the carpet fit to the floor pan? Are there any spots where it's loose?

I so want to do this.

 

No problem and I have answers.

A simple answer is cost. The Dynamat extreme kit was just around $90 shipped for 20 sq. ft. If you spend another $40 or so there would have been enough to go completely up the firewall, but I really wanted to keep this upgrade under $250. The 20 sq feet covers almost the entire floor pan. The only exposed areas after 20 sq feet are directly under the two front seats and high up in the foot pedal area. Also since the Aeroturbine exhaust was nearest and almost directly under the rear cab seats, I tried to focus most of the material in that area.

I used to have Duratracs and at 80 mph on the highway they have a slight hum. So that was also one of the noises I was trying to suppress. There is still wind noise from the windows though, but I if you did the door panels that would take care of most of it.

I do not have Dynamat in the door panels yet, but this is something I am planning on in the next month or so. The only reason I didn't do the doors is because I already felt I was taking on a large enough task with the carpet AND the Dynamat on the floor pan so I decided this is something I could always do at a later time.

Honestly the fitment on a scale of 1 to 10 and how tight it hugs the floor pan is a 9.9. Everything fits extremely tight and doesn't "bundle up." I think mostly because it's so thick and because it's molded in an actual Tacoma and not a universal carpet. Honestly it fits and looks so good, that if I had gotten the OEM color carpet I'm confident you would not be able to tell it was even replaced.

Of course... couple more questions

I don't see that graphite color option on their website. Could it be because I'm a 98 ext cab?

What type of carpet did you select? Cutpile? Loop?...

How the hell did you get it for $149? Their quoting me $237 for my truck.

 

It's the cutpile color, use the link I posted above it's priced at $144.90 for a 98 extended cab Tacoma. If you use a custom color like I did, you will have to put the color code in the checkout. If you click on the cutpile link on the link above, there are more colors available. Their ebay distributor site is cheaper than their main website.

 

One last question (for now)

Why did you go with graphite and not black?

 

^ No problem feel free to ask away. As soon as I decided to attempt this project I had three colors in mind immediately. OEM gray, Black, and Graphite. The reason I chose Graphite is simply because I wanted a custom look. If I didn't chose Graphite my second choice would have definitely been Black. If I knew I was going to sell the truck soon I would have chosen OEM gray because you can use that as a selling point.

 

Great write-up and instructions. I wanted/needed to do Dynamat on my stang after I put headers on but never had the balls to start peeling out the interior. really good simple how to do instructions! i REALLY need to lay new carpet in my truck now I can do it with the bells and whistles. good color choice, to be frank I would stay away from black carpet, (being near 50) it can be hell keeping up with things at night, the stang was black and it was like a black hole sometimes.

Been looking at a doing a similar deal for my truck for next year, gives myself a guideline and options.
Should be much simpler for a single cab versus an xtra cab.
