What happened to Toyota Trucks?

Why did they change the Tacoma style after 2004? The 2005 to current year 2nd generation trucks dont look good.
I have owned Toyota "Mini" trucks since 1978 and after 2004 they are full size models that look terrible. Also the 2004 models and earlier years are now more expensive because nobody likes the new model style.

 

Buy a 1st gen problem solved

I like a lot my 2ND gen taco, won't change it for nothing. Everybody got different likes.

 

To: 2nd gen owners....should we even be in here? I think it was meant for his "1st gen crowd"....but I'd have to say that title was pretty hard to ignore...ha! So props on that!

 

Coolest looking mid-size truck in the market...best interior as well. IMO

 

I like the 1st gen, to much plastic on the 2 gen for me but it's your money get what you want.

I would prefer a smaller truck, too, but not enough for me to pick a Ford Ranger over the Taco. Simple as that.

 

I see it like this. If you want a small truck then yeah I get it. The 2nd gens are kinda big I guess. But I like the size, not a monstrous full size but the 1st gens are too small for my liking, so the 2nd gen is perfect for me.

As far as looks, I like both. But I do think the 2nd gens are the best looking lifted truck on the road. That's my opinion. You know the saying, we all have one.

 

Wouldn't want anything smaller than my 2nd gen myself. Nothing against the 1st gens either, I still like them. Looks are subjective so don't try and put that off as fact. Toyota's sales figures and the fact I literally see a 2nd gen anytime I go somewhere beg to differ with your assessment that nobody likes them.

Thanks for joining just to bash the 2nd generation. I'm sure your future input will be just as valuable.

 

Disagree. 2nd gens hold their value just as good as the 1st gens. Both are pretty expensive.

 

I agree that the 01-04 tacomas were the best looking. Easier to drive without the drive-by-wire too. I'd have bought one if all the ones up here hadn't all rusted away their frames already. Not that my 2nd gen isn't faring better, it has rust all over the freakin place

 

New to the site but love my 2nd Gen Taco. Nothing I would change about it and i think many people in my area agree because 2nd gen tacomas are everywhere around here. I probably see about 10-20 just on my way to school

Snowman is right. In fact the 2nd Gen, according to pickuptrucks.com, has an "expected retained value of 57.3-percent of original cost. (And that percentage is the highest retained-value number of any vehicle in any category.)"
