I did the airbox (deckplate) mod yesterday, but hesistated to block/remove the larger "silencer" as described on the following webpage: http://www.trdoffroad.com/articles/deckplate/index.php

Looks like it serves as more than a "silencer"...there's a line-out running from the "silencer" to another engine component.

Question: Can the "silencer" be removed, and instead run a new (longer) line from the main air intake tube to the unidentified component (i.e., take the "silencer" off, and replace it with a tube)?

Here's the "silencer" I'm referring to: [IMG]

I'd just get a T Vaccum connector and connect it to the other hose next to it.

Any idea on what the "silencer" is...checked the FSM, but couldn't find anything.

It quiets down the huge sucking sound you hear when you step on the throttle.

Hmmm, sounds important, maybe tie it in to the main line by bushing down the (original) hole for the silencer?

that would work....or even a "t" fitting will suffice.
