man, my rule is simple, 3 months or 3 thousand miles period. some might say its wasteful, maybe but i have piece of mind.
In 1992 I got a Nissan Sentra SER one of the few new cars I have ever bought. first 500 miles changed the oil, and started using Mobile One. next 1500 miles changed oil, and from then on every 3m/or miles.
I sold that car with almost 300,000 miles and she did not burn or use oil, and I talked to my uncle back home the other night and he said the man still has my ol car, and she has almost 450,000 miles and is running great. and he has followed my oil maintenance.
oil is a coolant, lubricant, cleaner, keeping that oil changed will starve off oil sludge problems
and I always use synthetic oil.

8000 km is 4960 miles
Standard oil change interval for US Toyota vehicles is 5000 miles.

5000 km is 3100 miles.
3000 miles is Jiffy Lube recommended oil change interval.

Check your owner's manual... I'm betting that it recommends service at 5000 miles or 8000km.

LOL!

Metric boggles many minds.
Kawasaki recommends 7500km service intervals on the Vulcans.

But they have a few mistakes in the service manual.
One in particular is the torque specs for a number of fasteners is not translated correctly. The newton/meter spec is correct for the fastener, but in some cases it was translated to imperial and printed as ft/lbs when it should be in/lbs... an error of a factor of 12!

OP is in Canada... He's talking about Kilometers, not "miles" or "k-miles"

Note the thread title.... 8,000km.
That's just under 5000 miles and is the factory recommended change interval for severe duty service on 2003 and older model Toyotas, and interval for ALL service on most 2004 and later models. The elimination of the 7500 mile/12,000km interval for "standard" was on a model by model basis as the "Maintenance Required" light was added during cluster redesigns.

3000 mile intervals are "recreational oil changes" and only serve to fatten the wallets of shops like Jiffy Lube that recommend that interval.
NO auto manufacturer recommends 3000 miles.

It won't hurt, but it's a waste of money.

3000 miles = 4839 km
5000 miles = 8065 km
7500 miles = 12,096 km
10,000 miles = 16,129 km
12,000 miles = 19,355 km

Yea I could'nt be arsed to do the conversion I always do 3000 miles since the oil starts to look really nasty by that time and every auto I've owned made it over 250,000 miles with no problems (in the engine department). Guess it comes down to how hard you treat your truck and how much you love it

Bingo.

Regular maintenance with quality parts and fluids is what matters.
As far as intervals, 3000 vs 5000 is not going to make any difference in how long it lasts.
5000 vs 8000 will not make a difference with full synthetic.

OTOH, I put over 200k on my '94 and had the oil changed at Iffy Lube about every 10,000.
It burned about a quart every 5000, was a little down on power, and had some sludge in the bottom of the oil cap, but it never let me down.
