I bought a 2010 Tacoma for my DD so its time to start the build on my 98 for a trail rig. It is a single cab 2.7L. Just interested what order most people do there builds. Here is my plan. Note this will be somewhat a budget build. And also needs to be ok on the street.

Locker rear probably luchbox-maybe ARB if funds allow
Lsd or similar front (haven't decided yet)
    Sliders weld on
    Full skids
    33x12.5x15 tires
    5100/eibach setup
    big hammer
    front winch bumper
    winch
    rear bumper
    recovery tools
    maybe snorkel

This will be setup as a capable trail rig that I can also drive to the trail with occasional as a DD . This will probably be about a 2 year process but I will be wheeling during this time.
Looking for opinions on where my money is best spent first.

    Thanks

I do already have a crapppy 3 in lift so I can already fit the tires with the help of a hammer.

If your truck's a 2010 model, you might get more luck over in the second gen section. Oh, and welcome to Tacoma world!

2010 is the DD. 98 is the play truck.

Decisions decisions. I have about 800 for my first mod. I can fit tires on my current lift just need to hammer the pinch weld. But I might go with armor first

if its for a trail rig I would just go slow and pick up on used parts. I did my entire lift for close to $200 and wheels and tires for $500 (those were new so more money).
with $800 you could probably do lift tires and some armor.

If for what ever reason you decide to get rid of the center dash trim piece. I'll take it, buy it, whatever...

    4) Gears and lockers

I think I'll go with sliders first since it does have a factory skid plate. There weak but better than nothing.

Sliders are a good first choice.

Get the lift next as even with smaller tires it'll be pretty damn capable with that.

    Then tires, then armor.

    Then locker

    winch.

Get OBA as well ASAP or a smaller pump

I have 31x10.5 now so there not to bad. I usually can pick up tires cheap as I see used ones come through my work often.

I have 800 to spend now so I'll get the sliders and have a jump start towards a lift .

Yea I probably won't by tires unless I find a really good deal. I'll work on the other stuff first.
