Okay Im sure this is probably been answered a million and three times but I'm on my phone and the search function sucks. But Friday I'll be ordering bilstein 5100 for the front, Gettin them from down south since they are a vendor on here, but I the only thing I should need is just the struts right? And how hard are they to put on? I've got a spring compressor

Yes all you need is the shocks. They arent that hard to put on just have the right tools to do it all. You can try this method or use the spring compressors. Or take them to a shop and have them assembled would be the safest.

Thanks for the help guys. I haven't decided on if I'll take it somewhere or do it myself. I'll probably end up gettin someone to do it cause I know how dangerous those springs can be. Great link though in case I do decide to do it

You're probably going to need new bushings for the shocks since they don't come with them. I also bought new top plates when i did mine because i had to cut my top plate nuts off to remove the old ones

Awesome. Thanks guys for the help. I've read so much on this. I just get a little nervous I'm gonna forget somethin and then get halfway through the install (if I do it) that I'll have forgotten somethin I need

I would recommend spraying the bolts with pb blaster or wd-40 the day before you're going to do the install, then spray them again a little while before you're going to start. And also, have a buddy there with you. I used a pry bar on the lca to get the bottom bolt back in on the new shocks and needed help. And for safety reasons too of course :D Good luck and if you have any more questions let us know

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
No you don't. To add, if you purchase the new bushing kit watch the top hat. It has a bushing in it already. You don't want to double stack them. You can either reuse it or remove it from the top hat.

They dust boots suck. I bought them and they only cover the top of the shaft. The bottom is completely open. Save your $20

I just put mine together and the dealer sold me a third washer. The third washer goes ontop of the lower rubber bushing according to the dealer and the diagram they gave me. I bought the bushings kit through Wheelers and they said only the two bushings and the two washers in the kit are needed to install the new struts.

I assembled them from the bottom to the top: Strut, retainer clip at the lowest setting, spring perch, 881 coil, jk spacer, metal washer, rubber bushing, "Dealer" metal washer, top plate, rubber bushing, metal washer and then the nut.

I'm installing tommorow. If any of this sounds wrong please let me know.

Sounds good sportsterchop just make sure the perch is positioned correctly.
Here's the FSM page for reference. Note: 2nd Gens use only two washers in the front

I am also wanting to get the 5100s. Should the bushings be replaced or would the factory ones be ok to use like Down South's website says?
Do you recommend I buy new ones?

Lot's of info in the suspension section. But I preffer to replace as much as possible to save aggravation later. I guess it depends on your personal preference or the condition of the old parts. But you can reuse them if you want.

Just ordered them from Down South!! How long do they normally take to come in?
