I recently purchased an 03 2.7L 4WD Taco. The guy I bought it from used the 25,000 mile oil change from Amsoil and after changing the oil, as far as I am concerned, the claims of Amsoil are garbage. The oil was burnt to a crisp and about 2 quarts had burned up. When I drained it I only had about 3.5 quarts to 4.0 quarts come out of the pan and oil filter. It was about 20,000 miles into the "25,000" interval. Is this normal for that much oil to be burned up? I put 5.5 quarts back in and the oil level is spot on. Thoughts?

In my 2001 taco 2.7 I changed oil 4500 to 5500 miles, depending on driving conditions. I cant imagine anyone being dumb enough to believe oil, synthetic or not, would last 25k!? Put 230k on that truck before giving it to my younger brother and it never burned any oil. I would be checking that engine oil constantly. Good luck

Hard to say if that was normal...i've never gone past 6 months or 3,000 miles without changing. If a manufacturer claims that kind of milage there's no way in hell i'd actually do it. I wonderr though since you bought used how long it's really been since it got changed?? If i were you i'd have that engine checked out.

He only had it from 78,000 miles to about 98,000. He bought it from CarMax. Amsoil also has a 15,000 mile claim on an oil of theres. I think people are crazy who run that stuff. No signs of sludge, just burnt oil.
