Did Tacos come with a gas light? Its a 1996 Tacoma LX power everything.
I can see a little spot next to the fuel gauge where a gas light would go if I look at it at an angle. I have no dinging or light to tell me when I am low on fuel.

If they didn't come with them, is there a mod to hook it up or something? I can clearly see the cut out for the light at an angle, but maybe it was for the 4runner.

No dinging, should just be a light.

I never saw one on my '94.
I've only seen the light on my '08 once.
The needle has to be WAY down... like nearly touching E.
On my '08, with a 21.1 gallon tank, the light comes on with about 4.25 gallons remaining.

You have a 15 gallon tank? I'd say if you're putting more than 13 gallons in and you aren't seeing a light, that you don't have one.

I don't know if one could be retrofitted, but on my 1999 when the light comes on I have .5 or one half of one gallon to get me to a station. Not much of a warning in my opinion. My truck holds 15 US Gallons as per factory info. When I see the light I can put in 14.5 or almost 15 gallons

In the manual it says 4x4 models should have an 18 gallon. I honestly don't know the tank size.

if its a 96 4x4 it should be a 18 gallon tank and the light wont come on until the needle is on the empty line or slighty below.

I guess if one is in there I have never taken it low enough. I normally fill up around what should be the quarter tank mark. The lowest its been was still a little above the empty line.

My 01 has an 18 gallon tank, the light in mine comes on around 15 or 16, I forget which. The most I ever fill it is 16 gal, most of the time it's 15 plus. I don't know if the older first gens have a smaller tank?

So my 1999 has a 18 gallon tank? Not being a smart ass here. If that is the case then I now know more than I thought I did...which isn't too much to be expected.

I was under the impression my tank only held 15 gallons. Am I wrong on this?

I don't know about the 1999. I wouldn't think it would be different from a 1996, and my manual says 4WD models have an 18 gallon tank.

Check the specifications section of your manual.

Page 235 of the Toyota 1999 Owners Manual States, And I am not happy about this.... A 1999 4x4 or pre runner has 15.0 gallon max. the 2x4 has 12.5 gallon. Guess I need to carry a Jerry Can

You read that wrong. 4x4 and pre's have 18 gals = 15 imperial gallons

    4x2 have 15.1 gals = 12.5 imperial gallons

Are you looking at the Imperial gallons? Imperial gallon is a different measurement than US gallons.

Those measurements have to be Imperial because A 2x4 should have a 15 gallon(12.5 imperial) and 4x4 should be 18(15 imperial)
