How difficult is it to get the shifter console out on a automatic trans I want to refinish it, with out breaking anything.

It's simple. Just unscrew the 4 screws on the shifter console and carefully pull it out. The 2 flanges on the center console part that connects to the shifter console might bend a little.

If you want to avoid bending, open your center console compartment and unscrew the two bolts on the bottom of the compartment and pull that whole unit out. I recommend this way, as it makes it easier to remove the shifter part. And is much easier putting it back to avoid scratching the new finish.

shouldn't be anything to it - you'll need:
    a 10mm socket & driver
    a 10mm end wrench
    a phillips head screwdriver

    - lift up the center arm rest (both of the lids) and in the bottom will be two 10mm bolt heads (use the socket)
    - also between the seats at the base of the console there will be two more 10mm bolts (use the wrench)
    - around the perimeter of the front half of the shifter housing (the front half of the cover) there will be 4 screws on the sidewalls (use the screwdriver)

once you get this far, you should be able to just lift the panels out of the way.

gimme a call if you want help
    I'll PM you my info
