Hey guys I am looking to buy either a 4x4 or 2wd Automatic Tranny Tacoma.Im in the market for a Extended access Cab or a 4 door double cab either in a V-6 or 4 cyl.I am trying to do as much research as possible to get some REAL WORLD #s on the Fuel economy these trucks get.I wont be towing anything major or off roading the truck Im just looking for a Nice reliable Tacoma that gets good fuel mileage.I would rather have a 4x4 honestly but im afraid the 4x4s wont get much fuel mileage.I would like to buy a truck that gets at least 22mpg or better. The truck will be driven easily and not hot rodded so that should err on the conservative side of fuel economy. Please share what your Tacomas real world fuel mileage is and the trucks engine/Tranny specs to go with it.Thanks alot!

    These might help.

    http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/tacoma

    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculatorSelectYear.jsp

Keep in mind, as on here or any site or pretty much any vehicle by that matter, there is the chance for error in the mpg an owner lists. Some are pretty accurate as the owner takes variables and modifications to their vehicle into account and factor for it (however accurate) and some don't and change stuff without factoring the effect into the mpg they are calculating or showing on a guage.

My pet peave is changing wheels and tyres for a different size than stock and not accounting for it in mpg reported (or not calibrating the speedo or gearing to make things accurate).

True for any car not just Tacoma.

Also there are many variables that change mpg reported like area of the country, is it mountainous/hilly or flat, do they get mixed fuel or non, how do they drive etc. etc.

So, best to look at averages and maybe factor slightly less when you are estimating and shopping. That way when you buy you are hopefully pleasantly surprised at the mpg you are getting lol. The above sites have owner input and show graphs or calculated numbers so you can get an idea.

    I hope they help.

The gov one has owner input on most and allows you to click to see it. The site also calculates the city/hwy average for you.

The fuelly site is nice as it is loads of owners. More than usually post on the gov site. Graphs will show a good summary of averages to go by. Cheers

Will probably go back to 16s eventually, but had good set of 15 inch rubber. If I let this place lure me into the Tundra brake upgrade I'll have to go back to 16's for that. No giant tires in my crystal ball...

I think the 2nd gen (2005+) 2.7L trucks do somewhat better on the whole. But you shouldn't see anything from them here (and perhaps you can't afford to shop that new...)

4x4 or fuel economy? You gotta compromise.
