MY98 - 33" BFG ATs, Bilstein 5100 shocks & struts, Firestone rear air-bag kit, Hawk LTS pads, Brembo rotors, 350k+ miles, frame patched together with snot, wood chips and man glitter. MY14 Forester - Who really cares. It runs, has an amazing audio system, but the engine is basically a 2-stroke.
I'm sure this has been covered, but the Tapatalk search function sucks and I couldn't find an answer.

I have a 1998 Tacoma SR5 4x4 with the extended cab. It has the chrome wheel arch trim, but I would love to swap them out for OEM fender flares.

The OEM fender flares for the earlier years aren't as aggressive and don't flow as well as the 01-04's. That said, would the 01-04 flares fit on my '98 model? If not, why? Iirc, the fenders are the same so I couldn't see why not. I just noted that every For Sale ad is very specific about model years.

98-00 simply bolt/screw in (on the underside of the wheel well)

01-04 you'd have to drill holes in your body and they use clips

Thanks for the info. Do they utilize any of the same mounting locations as the chrome trim? If they do, maybe I could use the 3M double-sided trim tape to secure the top of the flares?
