Hey guys, so Friday I bought a set of 8k HID's to install on my truck. They were the high and low beams. I paid $130 for the kit so I figured they were decent. I successfully got them to work on low, but the second I put them on high it blew a fuse, and I did it again and once again, blew another fuse. I know these trucks (2004 DC) have reverse polarity lights so my question is.... What HID kits do/did you guys use on your 1st gen trucks (preferably '01-'04).

Yes everything I did was spot on. I made sure of that. And yeah I know that factory HID's are 4300k because my dad's and mom's Lexus has those bulbs and so does my buddy's is300. I got a good price on the 8k so that's what I was gonna stick with but if you think that 6k is better then I'm all ears

I've always liked the idea of HID's but in the event that I had to replace my headlights with projectors I think I'll stay stock. It's nothing personal to those guys who rock the projector headlights in their own Taco's, it's just not my thing.

It's not just that it's "better" but you'll be able to see more with a 4000k-6000k versus your 8000k bulbs. Maybe they were a good price because the seller couldn't get rid of them who knows.

Check this older post from Brock, he's been throwing his HID knowledge around this board for a while:

Yeah, those 5000k-6000k look way better! It was one of those shops that do crappy upgrades on cars like tuners and I ran across a decent price so I picked it up but promptly returned!

Does anyone have an answer as far as the reverse polarity goes? Any 1st gen guys experience the same problem?

Cool, sounds good. I guess I've just figured that I'm going to have to go with just low beams since everywhere I go I can't find any bi-xenon HID's

love my 55w bi xenon kit but make sure you change the high and low fuses to 20 amp fuses or they will blow.

if you want a pretty decent kit look on ebay or ali express for the bi xenon kit . i paid 42 shipped for my gfs 55w kit and they heat up quicker than my 55w kit. worth every penny. just make sure standard ballasts not slim and no xentec bs kits

Why not slim ballasts? I have them and they work fine.

slims are usually junk depending on who makes them. they are usually the same boards in smaller cases which cause them to run hotter. my slim 35w kit i have gets so frkn hot it shuts off when i try to use it under the hood compared to my standard 55w. slims should only be used for motorcycles that have no space. what kit do you have?

I bought the kit from Slimcubby. It's a 35W Bi-Xenon kit for my motorcyce. The ballast has been a champ so far, especially because the motorcycle chugs at idle so the ballast ends up flickering at times (I need to find a better wiring solution...

ahh sorry man if its for a motorcycle its acceptable. i have a fix for the 35 w kit i use. are you using a relay by any chance with a different harness for it? if so you can get the anti flicker thing that plugs into the harness for it which is nothing more than a capacitor. i ended up getting a 4200 uf capacitor at radioshack for 5 bucks and ran it across the relay and it fixed my flickering problem. but its most likely just not getting enough power. may have to bump the idle up a hair or try a capacitor to help during idle

I can't bump the idle because it wold rev too high when cold, I pretty much have to constantly mess with it.

I don't have a harness but I'm going to make one so it gets power from the battery and the stock switch will be what turns it on. I also want to use a time delay relay so it doesn't flicker when the bike is trying to start.

you can get a harness for it on ebay for 5 bucks way easier than building one. are they drl? if so there should be a fuse for that you can pull like in cars so you can just turn them on manually

Motorcycles are required to run their headlights all the time so disabling them or putting them on a manual switch is just asking for a ticket.

I can get a relay at any auto parts store for under $5 and the wiring isn't difficult. All I'm doing is giving the lights a clean power source so they don't flicker. They'll draw power from the battery through an in-line fuse, the original circuit will just be the trigger to turn them on and off. High beam wiring will not be touched.

The time delay relay will delay the power feed so when the ignition is on, the lights won't fire for 30 seconds. That'll give the starter enough time to fire the engine without the ballasts trying to rob the starter's power.

my motorcycle HID finally pooped on me, well at least one low beam does (2008 yamaha r1).. i have no idea what brand they are, they were bought sometime back in 2008 from a friend was in the business of selling HIDs...

I'm going to save up and upgrade my lighting system on the bike... thinkin' about quad morimoto mini H1 projectors.. all running 35w.... id like to run a kill switch for the high beams and low beams respectively.... overkill?? ;)

Whoa... that's some pretty serious lighting in a bike!

I'd look into the time delay relay also unless your bike cuts off the lights while the bike cranks. I've been lazy about it and I'm wondering how long my ballasts will last.

Eventually, I'll be running dual Morimoto H1's with the graphite shrouds but $$ is in short supply these days...
