It would be interesting to find out who manufactures Toyota filters. I doubt they make their own. Probably the same people who make one of the "cheapo" brands.:)

    Resurrecting an old post....

Toyota OEM oil filters are made by DENSO, at least the last few I have seen. The good ones are made in Japan. 90915-20004

New guy on this Forum, I will post Pictures of both Tacoma's soon. I also wok for Toyota since 1996 and if anyone has any questions regarding tech to specs feel free to message me.

I've used Mobile 1 synthetic on my 02' Taco 3.4 ltr. when I first got it with 24k. It now has 180k. I chance my oil every 2-3k. I know that's a over kill however the engine runs great. The last couple years I started using Royal Purple 5W30 FPS. After I started using Royal Purple, I noticed the engine runs cooler and quitter when I climb the RPM's. Now everything I have is on Royal Purple. I did a test on two Identical New Generators, the first one with Mobile 1 Synthetic and the other Royal Purple. The generator with Royal Purple is noticeably quieter. Same thing on my Polaris Razor, runs quieter and cooler. I started to add it to my Wife's 15' Tundra and same result. My new 17' Tacoma will get the Royal Purple at my first service. I know people have their favorite oils as I was a Mobile 1 guy for years. After I switched to Royal Purple, I was amazed at what I could hear and feel plus a little better gas mileage. It is more expensive however, I did find it about half price on Morris4x4center.com . any order over 75$ is free shipping and no Tax unless you live in Florida, this website is mostly for Jeep accessories however, the prices for Royal Purple have been the best.

Significant waste of money and oil over time. As you said, overkill, and is not the reason your engine is running great as many on here run way past 200K and do not change that frequently.
