what type of oil?

what type of oil do you use in your taco? is it ok to change from regular oil to synthetic?

 

Not a bad idea to do. I just switched mine to Mobil 1 on the first oil change.

I use the recommended weight Mobile 1 synthetic oil as well. I have always heard good things and it seems to have proven itself. Little pricy but that is all I will ever run in my truck.

Amsoil is SSOO high dollar. Do you really think that is is that spectacular of an oil compared to all other brands of synthetic. Honestly...

 

how miles you run on synthetic before you change the oil?

 

stick with 5000 miles on synthetic.

 

I run roughly 5000 miles on synthetic (+/-500)

I'm kiddin! Amsoil is what i run in my Crf450 and i dont find the need to run that expensive of oil in a 4 cylinder tacoma ha ha thats stupid if you asked me, just find some 20 50 or 10 40 at autozone dump it in and go.

 

True. On your 95' 2.7L that engine can take just about anything.

However the new 4.0L and 2.7L engines with VVTi are made to much tighter tolerances. They require a thinner oil to correctly lube throught the entire engine. 10w40 and 20w50 are not recommended oils for the 05+ Tacomas. I believe the recommended oil is 5w30.

As for Amsoil, I used Amsoil on my 94' Suburban 4X2 w/ 350ci V8. I saw improvements in gas mileage and the engine ran well over 200,000 miles without any major work. If I had a local Amsoil dealer and the time to change my own oil, I would do it again.

 

Amsiol here also, along with Amsoil filter in an 05 extended cab 56 speed. Did see a small improvement in gas mileage. Change it 3-5K miles even though it's rated at 10K miles. Would like to switch the tran and rear to Amsoil but don't have the time or tools to do it.

 

I have ran mobil 1 in the 2 tacos I have I have a 95 with 188,000 on it and a n 04 with 54,000 and I have had no problems with either one and I go 7,500 miles at 5,000 it is not even dirty yet maybe thats too long but I have been doing it for so long I think its ok I have a hard time finding ams where I live unless I find it on e-bay but thats just my 2 cents

 

Mobil 1 isn't what it use to be. I'm not going to say its worse then what it was before. Here's a link and you can draw your own conclusion. I personally use German Castrol Syntec 0w30 also known as GC. Anyway here's the link with info in regards to Mobil 1 changing.

Dont worry about that stuff man, everyone has their own opinion about things. If you have been using mobile continue to use it... I have never heard one person say a bad thing about mobile till now. Its all he said she said. Just check out the facts.

 

The facts are in an oil analysis. Every engine likes a different kind of oil better then the others. The best place for real world info is to start reading the forums over at bobistheoilguy.com that is , the place to go on this subject.

 

yea screw it Ill just stay with mobil 1 like ill keep it 200,000 miles anyway
