Update: the throtle body seems to be good.

When you open the throttle from under the hood when us the butterfly valve suppose to start to open? Mine seems to start opening when the throttle is half way from being opened up all the way. I am having trouble with the truck and trying to figure out what the problem is.

So that I understand this, you have a manual throttle body, that the throttle plate does not move until you manually turn the outside control past the half way point??

I dont know. I know a little about motors. I have a 03 dbl cab v6 if that helps. I thought the butterfly valve was suppose to open when you turned the throttle. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Does your throttle body look like this?

    Tbody008_a0f76e5fc593b56afcc7c23e812e88b978989872.jpg

If so, it won't open all the way without the ignition turned on. It's throttle by wire. I believe that cable is a safety override so you can limp the vehicle off the road in case of a failure.

Yes it logs like that. Aren't you side to turn the thing the cable is attached to to open the butterfly valve?

yes with 2 cables but with drive by wire it may not open as the same as a direct cable to pedal but i am not 100% as mine has 2 cables and opens as soon as i twist the piece

OK, if your has a single cable, and an electrical connection, then it is operating as designed. The manual cable is for cruise control. Not sure why Toyota did it that way, but hey, who are we to try and out guess the engineers? As long as your truck drives normally, I would not worry about it.

Lol. There is something wrong with the truck at around 1500 -2000 rpm's it feels like loses power when driving at a constant speed. It will do it and start back normal right afterwards. I have been getting horrilbe gas mileage and I have a very string exhaust odor. Its not the rotton egg smell and it doesn't quite snell like gas. I changed the transmission fluid about a month ago and that didnt help. I checked the vacuum lines this past weekend and they seem good.

I would suggest getting it checked out by a professional shop. Bad MPGs can hurt the wallet.
