    There are two backing plates on the front pads I just took off. Should I leave them? 04 2.7 4wd taco

    :) Hello, yes you should leave those pieces in there. They are listed as anti-squeal plates. Here is a link to a 2 WD 6cylinder model, but it should be the same for yours. Good luck.
