Looking to buy 2001 tacoma double cab TRD

Hi,

Iam looking at a used black 2001 tacoma double cab 4x2with TRD offroad package. It has 135k miles which is high but its a toyota. Its going for $9900 Its at a toyota dealer where they sell used car trucks, they do inspect it and make sure it runs good and service it before they sell it. The sales guy told me it runs good the only thing toyota had to do was fix a oil leak and change belt before it can be sold to the public. The tacoma is in pretty good condition for an 01, it has a spray on liner that needs to be replace but thats no problem, Everything looked good but important thing is the air condition was not blowing out,, cold air. So the sales guy is going to have it check it out to see if they can fix it, I know it cost probably around $1500 to replace, Otherwise this tacoma is solid but mileage is high to, I was looking at the 06 and 07 that they had, but I just like this body style more for some reason. the 06 and 07 has good power and room but I still like the look of the 01 and 02. Is $9900 a good price?

I'd go for something with lower mileage... even if it IS a toyota... and price seems high.

Thats about right for the mileage it has, its hard to find a double cab for less than that. I dont blame you for wanting an older style. Less shit to go wrong, 01, 02's are bulletproof, motors are great and the truck itself is very reliable.

Iam going to purchase a tacoma but its either this 01 or 06 both are black and have trd off road package except the 06 has 29 or 30k and plus is more money . the miles is high on the 01 so I wanted your guys opinion

Did you Kelly blue book the truck? go to kbb.com if you haven't already and plug in the specs.

I bought my '02 Dcab 4x4 last month with 140,000 miles on it for 9500. It's hard to buy a truck you know nothing about its history. But, I bit the bullet and took a chance, turns out it was in an accident with some bondo work on it as well. Nothing major, engine runs like a champ though.

That sounds like a reasonable price for a TRD and doublecab. Maybe try to get another grand off. I just bought an extracab TRD in perfect condition with all maintenance records from the original owner with 74,000 for $8,500. My first Taco and I'm in love!

I wouldn't worry to much about the millage i bought my 01 with 90k on it and it now has 165k on it and the only thing that I have had to replace was the rear axle seal and that is because my diff vent was full of mud (my fault). Everything else has worked great and the engine doesn't burn a drop of oil. Id buy it again if I had the chance.

But it kinda just depends on the person and what you want

I've got a DoubleCab '01 4x4 (forget the Prerunner) with 65K miles. I bought it 4 years ago w/ 44K miles and it has been awesome since I've had it. No problems at all. Mileage seems kinda high for that price and only being a 4x2. Also, with the dealer telling you little problems like the oil leak, belt change, etc., it could be a lemon. They happen w/ every car company, so nothing against Toyota cause I love them. Spend some time and find exactly what you want. I looked for over 6 months before I found my "perfect truck". You're probably gonna own this for several years, so spend a few months and get what you want the first time.... no regrets!

my 01 dcab has 189,000 miles and runs really strong... i beat the hell out of it offroad and wheel it regularly at least once a month, and jump it whenever i can...

these older gen trucks can be great workhorses....

Thanks guys, I found another black 2001 tacoma double cab its a limited and has 92k, Does not have the logo sticker that says trdoffroad but it is equipped with the Rear Locking Differentialis from what the dealer says, so would it have the TRD offroad package? The price is $13250 out the door this includes tax ,doc and lic and also shipping. I live in Honolulu and this tacoma is in hilo on another island.
Here is the weblink to look at tacoma below let me know what you think and click on contact in website to see more pics

No, it doesn't necessarily have the TRD Off Road Package - even if the dealer is right about the electric locker being on it. The e-locker was available as a separate option in 2001.

The combination of color-keyed front bumper and chrome grille surround mean that PreRunner has the Limited Package. It was possible to get a Limited V6 Double Cab with the TRD Off Road Package. The 16" 5-spoke alloys came with either the Limited or the TRD Off Road Packages, so they aren't a deciding clue.

Both the Limited and the TRD packages had decals. It's possible that one or both package decals have been removed, but it's kinda odd to remove just those and not any of the others.

The only way to determine if it has the TRD Off Road Package would be to confirm it has the suspension parts (coils; Bilstein shocks) peculiar to that package.
