hello there i just brought a really clean low mileage 2000 tacoma. Its a California, bay area truck. From what i sees, there is no rusting on the frame, and looks like its was hardly been in the rain and gets parked in garage.Even the vin# sticker looks pretty new.
But the vin# is in the range (VL52N Z684860-Z718157) for the recall.

My question is, are all trucks in the vin# range all bad batches from production, or its unknown and some are good?

Is it possible that my truck just haven't show any rust because it havent been in any really bad weather yet?

should i or can i still go to toyota and get the frame prep and seal?

    thanks

Are you sure it wasn't checked/taken care of already? If not, it's too late to get in on the extended program. I went to the local Toyota dealership when I bought my 2003 and was happy to see it was inspected and correctly sealed at that time.it clearly showed up on the maintenance records

Because you're not in a state that uses road salt, you likely have no issue. You'd just want to get it sealed properly if an inspection shows it wasn't

The issue is with those trucks exposed to the high salt use on roads primarily in the northeastern states.

Is there a possibility that the truck was originally operated/exposed to those conditions by the first owner or subsequent owners? If the truck has been always operated in the bay area, chanced are minimal that it has rust perforation.

You indicate that your truck is a 2000. It would be eligible for inspection at a Toyota dealership and possible buyback if the frame has rust perforation.
At this stage they will not treat the frame and the frame was never eligible for replacement.

Your statement is correct for years 2001 - 2004.
You are incorrect for years 1995.5 - 2000.

Same rust perforation to the frames, but different programs.
Contact your local Toyota dealership to arrange an inspection.

I should have said..MAY be too late as I've read conflicting info on the program expiry (as in, if noe inspected by a certain date, it's too late. Date most often refunded, dec 31-2011). In any case, you'll find out when you take it to Toyota for inspection:)

So my truck is eligible for inspection, but since i have no rusting problem showing yet. Then the most likely scenario would be they telling my frame is fine, will not be treating and sealing of the frame.

Then as of now, at least i should have 3 year extended warranty to see if the frame will start rusting.
