Two random events of Tacoma not starting/idling

In the last three weeks I had two incidents happen where my tacoma - already warmed up and driven a bit, would not restart/couldn't idle on its own.

The first time, I had driven to the hardware store from work - maybe about 2 miles. I went in, came out and when I tried to start the ol' taco, it wouldn't start. I tried about 4 times, got out and opened the hood - looking for what I don't know. I eventually got back in and started it while giving it some gas and it eventually started and ran.

The second time which was earlier today, if I gave it some gas it would start but would not idle on its own. Once I let go of the accelerator it would die. I Started it a few more times, using the gas pedal to keep it alive and it would die. On the last attempt, I held the gas/kept it going a little longer than the previous attempts and this got it to idle on its own again.

I haven't experienced this before and its only happened twice in the last three weeks - plenty of other drives in between those occurrences have all been normal - normal start up and function. What might this be/what should I inspect?

Taco has 142k on it. 4 cycl, 2.7

 

There any turtorials here for those maintainance procedures?

 

Do I (should I) need to take the TB off the engine to clean it? If so, do I need to buy any replacement gaskets?
