Overdrive solenoid is a shift solenoid just behind the valve body. You can buy a set of solenoids for 200 something and change them yourself. You need to drop the pan. Good time to replace your ATF

This is the whole story...Had cruise control set at 65mph for about 20mi., began to climb a slight grade on interstate, auto-shifted into first passing gear to maintain speed, then as it shifted to next gear and then boom. At first we thought we ran over some metal, not the case. Coasted to a stop. Three holes in the engine block and one in the oil pan because it threw a rod. Note: have had oil chg every 3k, all parts replaced/maint before or at manuf rec. Auto tran serviced, fluids changed. Service Manager knows us by name. Engine light never came on before the blow. Now have installed rebuilt engine, drove 100 miles, then got engine code 741. Replaced torque converter. Engine code 741 came on again. Replaced overdrive solenoid. Engine code 741 again. Currently having valve body looked at by trans specialist. In too deep to get out...
