    My truck is a 2001 Tacoma 3.4 DC 2wd

I looked for a 4wd but couldn't find one and needed to settle on a vehicle so I snagged this bad boy. I know I'm limited being it's 2wd but I want to know what I can do with it. I'm not into rock crawling and stuff like that, but I do enjoy camping, taking it out to the stream for whitewater kayaking and doing some hunting. Would love to know what it's capable of! Also I'm on a budget being young and in the airforce with a family. Would love a list of must mods or something similar. love having stuff for utility like box rockets build!

    Thanks for the input!

You'll be fine, I dont rock crawl and i've only been stuck once in sand. And that was because i didnt know how to drive in it. As long as you arent doing anything ridiculous your 2wd will get you where you need to go.

Maybe I should ask what are good cheap mods to increase my trailing ability?

    Yep..1k for decant.

Go check out long travel tho..you'll be hooked..you could make the front droop tires up to lik 18'' with a custom LT kit. And the rear like 22''+.

thats usually the best estimate, for a quality lift. depending on tires they will run any where from 1000-1600 new. if you want to run 35's to increase your traction. a lift and tires will get you pretty far.

You can get bilstien 5100s/ new coils, and a add a leaf and be sitting on roughly 33s. The tires are what's going to cost the most.

Lol i dont think LT is the OPs best option. especially if he doesnt want to spend that much. Front kits with shocks are roughly 2.5K and to get numbers like you say would require some serious fab work.

35s don't increase traction lol they have the same foot print a 33 will..plus 35s you'd have to mod the fenders and fire wall and regear.

I know its not something he might want now..but, i bet its something he might want to shoot for. Was just a suggestion.

but i never said it would be cheap..haha

meant to say ground clearance. lol. Dont get me wrong I support anyone who wants to go LT! But OP expect close to 10K to get all 4 corners LT with halfway decent parts.

2wd will get you through everything but situations with really large levels of flex that lift the back tires off the ground. That being said momentum is your friend so most of these obstacles can be overcome by some speed before entering but not to much. Another problem is deep/slick mud which a good mud tire will help you there.
