    I have 33x12.50x15s with a 3.4 5 speed. I know you dont have to regear with 33s but i feel like i need more torque.Most people seem to be going with 4.56 with 33s but i plan to get 4.88s to get the most torque i can. I dont care about highway RPMs because i never really go over 55 mph here anyways. I read around and saw there might be problems using 4.88s in the front diff? Like you have to change something out before you can redo the front? Is that true?

    Also, is there any good brands i should be looking for or does it really matter.

    Some links would be appreciated too!

    If its your daily driver go with the 4.56 but if not go with the 4.88

    I plan on going 4:88's in mine and as far as I know they should go in just like stock gears. The only thing I've ever heard of anyone adding, is a locker because if you plan on locking it in the future, then it's cheaper to go ahead and do it while you have it tore down for gears. Most people also change out all the bearings and seals but it's all stock replacement parts.

    Cool thanks. Will 4.88s work in the front and rear diff without any modifcations to it? Will they fit with the stock carrier? Etc? If not ill go 4.56

    I received this from Just Differentials regarding using Nitro Gear Ring & Pinion gears. But this is regarding the rear diff not the front diff.

    IMO the argument is the same regardless of trans type. Raise the RPMs back up or even a little higher than they were stock. This make a huge difference off-road.

    One of the reasons for me is to be able to go slower when wheeling. :D

    The tranny's are geared differently and the torque converter makes a big difference.

    One of my reasons for choosing 4.88s over 4.56s is the increased 'crawl' ratio. Especially since a taco box cost a at least as much are regearing.

    I am hoping the advantages extend beyond just flat and climbing wheeling. Maybe to include better engine compression slowing on shallow descents.

    A friend is running 4.88s on his v6/auto Tacoma with much better driveability that I have with my 4.10s

    So is 4.88s okay? Or am i gonna be running through gears like crazy. Im looking for some increased power over stock also.

    Ohh yeah dont worry i thought about that, but where I live everything is close together and i dont really drive it past 55 mph. Even going that fast is only for 15 mins tops, so im more worried about having torque for city driving. Does that mean 4.88s would be the way to go?
