Hey guys - just traded a 2nd gen access cab for a 1st gen double cab, and I couldn't be happier with the trade, for the most part. Only problem with the DC is that whenever I go over a bump or if I'm turning into an elevated driveway, there is a bump/scraping noise that I can hear and feel. I think it is coming from the passenger side, but I'm not totally sure. It only happens when turning right, and sometimes it feels like something is loose and clinking around. Truck was previously owned by an elderly gentleman, who only put 48000 miles on it (it's an 04). It's also bone stock. Any ideas what it could be?

    4x4 or 4x2?

Could be lots of things like disconnected/loose sway bar, or loose shocks, bad ball joint.
Have you looked under there to see if everything looks normal?

Could be a tire rubbing on the mudflap or frame. Mine does it because I have slightly larger tires.

I had a similar problem on my old '98 xtracab; turned out the rubber bushings on my sway bar had disintegrated, allowing the metal washers to clank against each other every time I went over a bump.

Thanks for the replies, I put it up on a lift and looked at everything; sway bar looks good, ball joints are good, engine mounts are good. I'm baffled. The tires aren't any larger than the stock ones, so I'm pretty sure they aren't the problem. Only thing that I think it could possibly be is bad shocks. It still has the blue Tokico Gas shocks that it came stock with. At 50,000 miles and 9 years could those have gone bad?

Try to mount a camera in your wheel well and recreate the effect. Check your local area for someone with a Go-Pro and willing to help you out.

I put 300K on my Tokico shocks beforre I replaced them. I would replace the sway bar bushings anyway. That solved my problem with clunking.

this is probably pretty late, but my thoughts when I read this were immediately about your CV shaft. Check your CV boots, my landlord had a similar problem however I couldn't find the problem but suggested it be her CV shaft and sure enough when she brought the vehicle to a shop they found a warn out CV boot. That's me suggestion. Best of luck.

Not certain if the OP even has 4wd. His previous 2011 was, not sure about his 1st-gen. Don't know if he has ADD or manual hubs either. Incomplete info.
