First post and I hate to ask but how many miles are too many to consider buying a Taco? I found a 2002, 4 door, 4x4, TRD supercharger, E-Locker, great condition but it's got 275,000 miles. I think I can buy it $7800 but I'm concerned with the miles. My 4Runner has 220,000 and runs like a new one but you never know.

Thanks for your help and feedback

Basically it would just depend on if the previous owner , has taken well care of it. Do you know any of the previous work that was done to it? I would not be afraid of buying it if I knew its history. Good Luck!

if you pay 7800 for a vehicle with 275k miles you are an idiot.

All highway miles and full service records at the local Toyota dealer. It's been maintained perfect. Older guy owns it and has traveled all over the country with his job. He said it's been in every state except for North Dakota and Hawaii. He was a mapper for utility companies.

Kind of feeling that way for even thinking about it. On the other hand, I bought a Land Cruiser a long time ago with 225,000 and ran it to 350,000 without any major repairs. But, we're talking an inline 6 vs a V6.

I had a ram with over 225000 miles, similar to your circumstance, lots of highway miles. What convinced me to buy it was ran and felt a hell of a lot more solid than 6 other trucks I drove with less than 120000 miles on each. So my question to you, op is...does it feel like an old truck?

It feels as tight as the wife's 2003 Sequoia and it's only got 90,000 miles on it. Rides and drives like a truck with less than a 100k on it. Trying to talk myself out of it but damn, E-Locker and TRD supercharger. I may wait him out and see if he drops on down. I would feel a lot better if it was $7,000

That's a lot of money for a truck with so may miles on it. There's just no telling when something will go wrong. It may tick on for another 100k, or it may die on you within a month of buying it. I'd either convince the person selling it to drop the price or just wait for something with fewer miles on it.

What part of the country do you live in? I swear, around here a 1st Gen, 4 door, 4x4 cost a small fortune. If you find one with a 100k it will be in the $12,000 - $13,000 range. I'm in east Tennessee and they bring top dollar for some reason. My 2000 4x4 SR5 4Runner with 220,000 miles will bring $5000 or a little more. I know it's crazy but that's what they're bringing. I think you guys already told me what I know, too many miles. Thanks for the input.

    Here's the link. http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/3316977527.html

He's asking $8,900, dropped to $8,000 while I was talking on the phone so that's where I got my $7,800 from because I'm sure he would drop another $200. Why can't it have 150,000 miles?

I just paid $9,500 out the door for my '02 with 150k on it. It was listed at $10,900 Keep an eye out on Autotrader, good deals come around every so often. The price they are asking seems high to me and of course there is a risk in any vehicle with mileage that high, not that the one you are looking at is not a good truck. Be patient mate!

Not likely unless you were to find a private seller who really needed money. There is a big market for these trucks.

Got my 03 prerunner trd for 8500 with 70k miles. He was asking 10500 which was a fair price with the mileage and maintenance I think. But I've seen similar up to 15000 in Canada, anyway. Just nuts. I sat and waited for a week to get mine for 8500. I think I was able to get it for that cause it needed a new tire and had a number of touched up dings and less traffic to buy due to summer. But no rust, clean interior, excellent service records.

As you know, it comes down to how well maintained it's been. I knew the truck I bought was well looked after due to all the receipts and service records, so I didn't blink an eye last year when I bought my '95 SR5 4x4 Tacoma with 249,000. I would definately do it again.
