Hey guys I have been a lurker on here for a while. Anyways when I was looking for a vehicle a while back I couldn't find a tacoma in my price range so I picked up a 99 Limited 4x4 instead. I really like the 4runner but I still really want a tacoma. I have a chance to trade for a 99 Ext cab 4x4 V6 manual with 269k miles but it had a new motor put in at 200k miles. The guy has a long list of maintenance items done to it recently. My 4runner is a 99 limited 4x4 with 166k miles and a small lift. What are your guys opinions about the trade? Thanks

If you like the tacomas better than the 4runners then do it as long as its an even trade. Pics of yours and his would help too

Ya I do like tacomas a lot but the only thing that worries me is the mileage. Here are a couple pics of the truck

My 4runner looks very similar to Phdnprerunners's 4r on here

Looks pretty nice ;) sometimes you can tell how well he maintained it by asking him some questions and how the interior and stuff looks. If he maintained it well its got lots of miles left to go

I would say if you want a Tacoma get it, the mileage shouldn't be to big of a problem if it essentially only has 69K on it. If I read that right it got a new motor @ 200K right?
It should be solid since the owner dumped a bunch of money into it for maintenance.

    Sounds like a great deal!!

Man that Runner looks clean. I know there has been lots of maintenance on the truck you're looking at, and new motor. I'd be asking myself why all the maintenance? Why a new motor at 200, and why the body lift? Just my two cents but I'd keep the Runner, at least for now and keep looking for something maybe more even trade.

editing, just noticed that's not a pic of your runner, but if it's that clean the above still stands.

    Cheers,

    DC

I would wait till you can afford what you really want rather settling for something your runner looks clean, the taco not so much. For starters it's body lifted, look at the bumper gaps, also the pictures are of such low quality. Did you check it out in person?

This might sound silly, look at the rain / water sitting on it doesn't look like its been waxed for years another indicator of how it was cared for, think to yourself why did it need all those repairs?

The reason for the new motor was because he bought it from the previous owner with a blown motor. The previous owner did realize the radiator cap had come off until it was too late. All the maintenance has been done within the past 2 years since he bought it because he planned on keeping it for a while. He said he has been meaning to take off the body lift but he has been working a lot since he works in the oil field which I can understand.

2004 F-350...uh lots of motor work to go fast...er. Way to much to list. 2001: 3" leveling kit, ARB bumper, lightforce 240 blitz, 35" KM2s. SOLD 2008: OME 886s 90000 with dakars, LR UCAs, 5% tint, Satashi. SOLD 2015: Flooded and Gone
if you like the tacoma more get it. make sure though that the entire motor was rebuild instead of just the heads or block. ask for receipts and that stuff. also my 01 has 230k miles and still running great. just replaced the started last week. but make sure the motor was done right instead of skipping corners.

I've considered trading my truck for a built 4runner but ended up against it. Yeah the 4runner had a solid axle, 35" tires and 4.7 transfer case gears but when I looked at it from a fair market value (what they would sell for on the market from a private party) point of view, I would have gotten the shaft on that trade. I'm glad I didn't :D I want a 4runner but I won't lose out on a trade for one.

Personally, I think you're getting hosed on the deal if your 4Runner is really that clean. That truck doesn't look like it's been particularly well maintained to me. Plus, you mentioned the body lift, and doesn't the front bumper look kinda off, like it's not on straight (accident)? Just my opinion, but around here, a '99 4Runner Limited brings more than a '99 Tacoma.

Keep the 4runner, save up for the taco.

It could be a good deal. It could be a bad deal. From my car buying experience I've learned to just trust my instincts and try to be as objective about it as possible. If something about it don't feel right, I'd wait for another Taco. That's a fantastic looking 4Runner. Based just off the photos and not having all the facts, I'd be inclined to keep the 4Runner. Waiting's tough, but it usually turns out to be worth it.

That's an awesome 4runner, I say keep it. I'd love to get a 4x4 4runner but with what I've put into my truck I may just keep it until the wheels fall off. GL.

    Yes.
I would keep the 4Runner in this situation.

Hey guys there is another guy that wants to trade what I think is a 2001 Tacoma but when I looked on the title it said 2000. The truck has everything a 2001 would from the factory but the only vin tag is on the dash all the other ones are gone. Could it been a mistake on the title? The vin tag on the door is gone I think because the truck has been reprinted
