I removed the instrument panel and removed the lens to clean the dust from the inside on my 1997 Tacoma 4x4. When I re-installed the speedometer pointer now falls below 0 mph when not moving but reads ok when traveling. I have checked everything and it is connected as it was before I removed the panel. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is there a stopper for the pointer to rest on when @ 0? There should be one and its possible it got removed/ broke off during disassembly. Might want to double check. Also, be sure all your connections are secure and that no pins within the connectors came loose when disconnecting/reconnecting. You could even have the panel out and perform a wiggle test on the connectors/harness to see if something is loose.. Just a thought..

I have checked for a pointer rest and do not see where there was ever one and have checked all connections. The 1997 has a cable that connects to the speedometer and this connection seems to be secure. Thanks
