2001 tacoma 6 inch lift with 33's V6 automatic with over drive

Driving at 65 -70 mph , rpm's are at 2200 on flat ground, but there's no power going up hill on the Hwy. I'm hitting at lease 4000 rpm's just to go 65 or 70 mph this sucks I in end up backing off and going 55 mph in the slow lane what to do ?

whats the best way to correct this problem and what gearing should i use

    Thank

sorry for the gramer and spelling but you what im mean

You might have low rear diff gears like 3.73s or something. I swapped to 4.88s with 33s and a v6. Now i have plenty of power but im at about 2600-2700 going 65-70 so i stay at 55 in the slow lane anyways at about 2200. Maybe go to 4.56 so you get more power and get a little lower rpms

Um, 4.56's are going to make his RPM's go up at a specific speed compared to the 4.10's he most definitely has.

And yea, op, sounds like its time for a re-gear.
4.56's would be my recommendation for you.

Oh and, these small displacement engines LOVE to rev.
Hitting 4K with OD off to make it up a hill is nothing.

I'd go 4.88 over 4.56 with 33s and the Auto Transmission, yeah?

Only if it see's real offroad use. Otherwise, for a DD, 4.56's will be the best option.

Word, I was just confused because of our convo earlier. My tires are smaller than his and we discussed gear sizing. I'm going from 4.10 to 4.56 so I figured with the auto and bigger tires he could use 4.88 like you recommended me. But I just did some math and realize that wouldn't bring him closest to factory numbers, 4.56 would . . . I digress, and go to bed, ha adios

    Normal.
Normal with 33's and stock gears
Regear. Your RPMS will run higher, but you might be able to avoid that downshift that's slamming you to 4k.

Other option, drop back down to 265/75 or 285/70s.

You can reprogram the ecu. And there is no point for just 33s

If your talking about correcting your speedo your screwed as its a mechanical speedo.

Toyota ECU's are not programmable. Period.

Only 95.5-97 Tacomas had a mechanical speedo.
98-04 have an electronic VSS that is in fact correctable.

OP, I believe the tire size and gear ratio you're going with will put you near stock and get the speedo pretty close to accurate.
If not, check out the yellow box speedo calibrator.
I have a write up on a couple other forums.
    Google. ;)
