OK. So it is a 2001 prerunner TRD. bone stock. 3.4 v6 auto trans. When sitting at idle it will sometimes start to run rough and die. At speed it seems to just hiccup once or twice and keep running. I first noticed the issue when activating the rear diff. It happened several times but only when rear diff was locked. Now it seems to just do it randomly. There is no common factor. Diff locked or free, sometimes does it sitting at idle, sometimes driving down the road. Hot or cold makes no difference. It is so intermittent but it doesn’t appear to have anything to do with bouncing around or hitting bumps as it does it just sitting in the driveway. All wiring looks good, grounds are clean and tight. I took it down to the Toyota shop and they got no codes and couldnt get it to display the issue.

Mine did the same thing, it was the TPS (throttle position sensor) mounted on the side of the throttle body. It did this until it finally failed. Replaced and no more issues.

    Hope this helps.:)

I had a plug foul once that didnt throw a code for a couple weeks, i changed fuel filter thinking that was it but it was a misfire causing it. New plugs and wires and all is good.
